Frequently Asked Questions
Dates Are Sugar Dense Fruit, How Can It Be Healthy?
Dates -in its original form- differs significantly from any other form of sugar. Here's why. Our body absorbs the sugar in date a lot slower than refined sugar, thanks to its high fibre content. This results in a sustained increase in blood glucose verses a spike rise when refined sugar is consumed. Also, dates sugar requires no need for insulin to be produced and thus for the pancreas to be overworked, which makes date a healthy sweet. The high fibre structure along with high sugar content cause an instant energy boost without causing any harm to your body.
Be wary: once the original form of date is altered (for instance putting the date in a food mixer) fibre will disappear and our body will no longer distinguish the type of sugar we are consuming, hence our pancreas will be required to do some extra work. That's why "energy balls" containing dates aren't that healthy.
